Report content & takedown

Last updated July 13, 2026

The short version

Fenceline hosts opinions written by residents; we don’t author them. But we act on well-founded reports. There are three ways to report something: pick the one that fits, send it to hello@fenceline.homes, and we’ll review it promptly. Private information (someone’s home address, phone number, or similar) is handled first and fastest.

1. Private information about a person (doxxing)

Fenceline is for describing an association: its rules, its enforcement, its board’s conduct. It is not a place to expose individuals. Posting a person’s home address, personal phone number, personal email, workplace, or similar identifying details violates our Terms, whether the person is a board member, a manager, or a neighbor.

This is our fastest track. Email hello@fenceline.homes with the subject line “Private information” and a link to the content. You do not need to be the person named to report it. We remove or redact verified private information as an expedited matter, ahead of the general queue.

2. A false or defamatory statement about you

Content on Fenceline is protected opinion and first-hand resident experience, and reasonable people describe the same HOA very differently. But if a post states something about you as a fact that is false, you can ask us to review it. Send hello@fenceline.homes the following:

  • a link to the specific post or comment;
  • a quote of the exact statement you say is false, and a short explanation of why it is false (not merely unfair or unflattering);
  • your relationship to the community, so we can weigh the report; and
  • how we can reach you about it.

If you are the subject of a post, we can attach a “disputed” marker while we review, and we’ll remove content we find violates our rules. We can’t adjudicate every disagreement over a matter of opinion; the remedy for “I’d describe it differently” is usually context, not deletion. A specific, false factual claim, though, gets a real look.

3. Copyright infringement (DMCA notice)

If you own copyright in material posted on Fenceline without authorization, you can send a notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512). Send it to hello@fenceline.homes with the subject line “DMCA notice.” To be effective, it must include all of the following:

  1. identification of the copyrighted work you claim was infringed (or a representative list, if several);
  2. identification of the infringing material and enough information for us to locate it (a direct link is best);
  3. your name, address, telephone number, and email address;
  4. a statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law;
  5. a statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and under penalty of perjury, that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act on the owner’s behalf; and
  6. your physical or electronic signature.

On a complete notice, we remove or disable access to the material and, where we can, notify the person who posted it.

Counter-notification

If your material was removed and you believe that was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice with: your signature; identification of the removed material and where it appeared; a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed by mistake or misidentification; your name, address, and phone number; and your consent to the jurisdiction of the federal court for your district (or, if outside the U.S., the district where we may be found). We may restore the material in 1014 business days unless the original claimant notifies us they’ve filed suit.

Repeat infringers

We terminate, in appropriate circumstances, the access of users who are repeat copyright infringers.

What happens after you report

How fast: we review reports on a best-effort basis. We aim to look at private-information (doxxing) reports within about 24 hours and everything else within about 3 business days. These are honest targets for a small team, not guarantees; a complicated report can take longer, and we’ll tell you if it does when you asked to be notified.

  • We acknowledge and triage every report. Private-information reports jump the queue; copyright and defamation reports are worked in turn.
  • Private-information and safety reports have a backstop: if nobody has reviewed one within about 24 hours, the reported content is hidden automatically until a person rules on it.
  • We may remove, redact, restrict, or mark content as disputed, or leave it up with context. We may also act on our own initiative when content violates our Terms, whether or not anyone reports it.
  • Acting on a report doesn’t make us the author of anything on the platform, and choosing not to remove a lawful opinion isn’t an endorsement of it.

A note on bad-faith reports

Takedown is a tool for removing genuine harm, not for burying honest criticism. Knowingly false reports (a DMCA notice over material you don’t own, or a “defamation” claim aimed at a true, unflattering opinion) can carry legal consequences for the sender, and repeated abuse of this process can cost you access to Fenceline.

How to reach us

Send any report or notice described above to hello@fenceline.homes. If you’re not sure which track fits, send it anyway and tell us what happened; we’ll route it.
